WEEK 2 Meeting of the Mayans
Parrothead Roots Week
Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker Belize
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 1 - SATURDAY FEBRUARY 8 2025
Getting there…
You'll only need to book your round trip flight to Belize City International (BZE) and we'll take care of the rest. All major US carriers fly here and most flights arrive within a few hours of each other. BZE is a small airport and easy to navigate. You'll be guided to the domestic waiting area where you can grab a drink or meal while you wait for your hop flight.
Your round trip hop flight from BZE to Ambergris Caye (San Pedro-SPR) is included in the package and we will take care of booking this for you. It includes one check bag and one carry on. You'll take the short 15 minute hop over to the beautiful island of Ambergris Caye and we will be there waiting on your arrival.
The most common way to get around in San Pedro is with a golf cart. You will want to have one or share one with friends as many of our locations are not walkable. In the past, we have had some couples decide to split a cart with friends. We have made this and add-on option so you can decide for yourself, just let us know who’s sharing on your order form.
The first week of our event is “the party” week. We feature more of the modern day artists from the Trop Rock genre and others. This week is geared more towards the party crowd.
Week two is the “Parrothead Roots” week where we bring back the artists who helped get the whole thing started and an attempt to recreate some of the best memories from the best events from days gone by.
Each of the first two weeks will be truly unique as two different stand alone events. Of course week two will also contain a lot of partying, but at a slightly slower pace than week one.
Choose your favorite or join us for both weeks and have the music vacation of a lifetime!

WEEK 2 MOTM ITINERARY
Saturday February 1- Arrival Day and The Grand Opening of the Loyal Order of the Tiki Bar Pirates
After arriving at San Pedro airport (hop flight included), we will have stewards to handle your luggage to the resort directly across the street from the airport where we’ll get you checked in and up to speed and signed in for golf carts for the folks staying at the satellite hotels. You’ll have your first few hours to relax and get into vacation mode after the long travel day. Hit the pool or hit the on site restaurant for a bite and a welcome drink and get your out your craziest Parrothead gear for Saturday night's grand kickoff party on the hotel grounds!
5-9:30pm- After dinner (5-7pm) we kickoff Parrothead Roots week Saturday night in perfect fashion with a tribute to the music and memory of the man who brought us all together in the first place, Mr. Jimmy Buffett! Mike Nash hosts "Thank God The Tiki Bar Is Open” with all of the week two artists and musicians (and even some Belizean band members) as we dance the night away to the music that started it all. Dust off your old feathers and coconut bras as this night is all Parrothead and guaranteed to be a special one to set the tone for this fun filled week of reliving old memories and making lots of new ones…and for our host hotel guests, you can just stumble back to your room when it’s over!
(VIP and Passholders only)
Sunday February 2- The Lighthouse Sessions, Cart Decorating & John Reno Showcase
11am-2pm- Sunday you’ll spend your first day of vacation chillaxing in the pool and grounds of our host hotel, the Sunbreeze, for a very special day of music and memories. For those of us who miss “the old lighthouse days” from Key West, we are attempting to recreate that vibe at the Sunbreeze Hotel Stage and we’ve got Kelly McGuire himself to bring it all together! Kelly is “the King of the Island” and is the reason we found Belize in the first place! In 2018 Kelly brought Mike and Melissa to the island for the first time and none of us had any clue back then that first visit would turn into this.…sounds similar to a story I’ve heard about a couple of guys named Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett and another island somewhere? Who knows what might happen on this very special afternoon? Afterall, the JJW crowd will be in town, and if we can capture even a portion of the vibe from the old lighthouse days, this is guaranteed to be one of the most talked about events within an event in the entire Trop Rock and Parrothead world! (VIP and Passholders only)
4pm- It’s a Rag Top Day! For those of you who would like to add to the fun, we'll be dressing up our carts on Sunday afternoon so bring all the fun stuff you'd like!
5-9pm- Sunday night we’ll head up the island for dinner from 5-7pm followed (7-9pm) by a magical night of reliving some of the blurriest Parrothead memories from days gone by! In keeping with our “Parrothead Roots” theme, we are bringing back the one and only John Reno to add to this already unforgettable week! John has not played a show for Parrotheads in many many years, but rest assured, he is chomping at the bit to make his big return to the stage and we’re flying him all the way from Panama to have that stage be exclusively a Mayan’s one! (VIP and Passholders only)
Monday February 3- Field Trip to Happy Island Bar at Secret Beach and Open Evening
11am-5pm- Monday we'll load the carts up with beer and bathing suits and spend the day chilling in knee deep water in paradise at our host bar Happy Island and Secret Beach! Secret Beach is one of the most beautiful hidden gems on the island and it makes for an incredible day of doing absolutely nothing but drinking and getting to know your fellow Mayans!
12-3pm- We’ll feature the music of our local friend and artist Brent Butcher for the afternoon and return to the resort Monday evening for a free night or see what pops up!
Tuesday February 4- Take a vacation from your vacation and Pirate Night!
Tuesday is yours! Check out that restaurant you’ve been hearing about, book a dive/snorkel or fishing trip, head back to spend the day at one of your favorite spots, head to Tranquility Bay for the day or just lay around at the pool and take a vacation from your vacation!
5-9:30pm- Tuesday night we’ll head up to a favorite spot for a night of pirate fun! First we’ll have dinner 5-6:30pm, then…Bring your pirate gear and join us on the pirate ship as we enjoy shows from Paul Roush (6:30-7:30pm) and Kelly McGuire with Mike Nash (7:30-9:30pm)for aaaargh-rip roaring night of swashbuckling fun!
(VIP and Passholders reserved seating. Individual show passes will also be available at the door for $15 US)
Wednesday February 5- Wayo’s Afternoon, VIP BBQ and The King of the Island Show
11am-2pm- Wednesday we’re taking over one of our favorite spots for an afternoon of music and antics by two of Trop Rock’s founding members-John Reno and Paul Roush- as they relive stories of days gone by while you enjoy the incredible views and even take a dip in the knee deep water!
(VIP and Passholders only)
4-7pm- Wednesday early evening will be a very special performance and Belizean BBQ by Mike Nash for our VIP’s only.
7:30-9:30pm- The King of the Island (Kelly McGuire) will be playing for us all evening so get ready for the party!
(VIP and Passholders only)
Thursday February 6- Group Field Trip to Caye Caulker, Mike Nash Show & El Patti at El Patio
10am-6pm- Now that you'll have a good feel for what Ambergris Caye and San Pedro are all about, it's time to go island hopping! We'll head out Thursday late morning by water taxi (private pick up from Sunbreeze dock) to visit San Pedro's much more laid back neighbour island of Caye Caulker! Picture a much slower vibe than San Pedro. Very few golf carts here...in fact, you can walk the entire 5 blocks long by 2 blocks wide island in a few minutes; but there's still plenty to do here on our day trip. You can hand feed the tarpon, search for sea horses at the sea horse preserve and even hand feed stingray's; or just park up at "The Lazy Lizard” and drink the day away with a one-off “all beach acoustic” Mike Nash performance (12-3pm) with a special Tropical band setup for the afternoon and guest appearance by John Reno. Grab a fresh grilled lobster, get in some souvenir shopping, or just drink the day away.
Thursday night we will return to San Pedro just in time for a special dinner show at one of our favorite spots, El Patio (dinner not included) within walking distance (ahem…stumbling distance) of the host hotel.
7-9:30pm- We couldn’t resist the opportunity to have a dinner show with our own John Patti at El Patio so you know this evening is going to be a blast!
(Thursday will be open to all but only VIP’s will have the Caye Caulker ferry)
Friday February 7- Pool Day & Grand Finale Party
12-2pm- Friday you’ll spend your final afternoon chillaxing in the pool and enjoying a much needed final day of rest. All are welcome to join us at the host hotel grounds for a special performance by a local legend on the island, Barefoot Skinny, for a laid back afternoon! You’re also free to go squeeze in that last visit to your favorite spot for the day!
(Show is open to all but please note the pool is for VIP guests only)
5-9:30pm- Friday night we will head to Palapa Bar for dinner from 5-7pm followed by a grand finale party as Mike Nash hosts a very special night with all of our artists “in the round” to cap off a perfect week in paradise. When these guys get together on stage anything (and everything) has been known to happen, so rest assured, we’ll be sending you home with a bang! (VIP and Passholders only)
Saturday February 8: End of week 2 and start of week 3
Returning home: If you are leaving the expedition Saturday, you will cross the street to the airport where you'll take the quick 15 minute hop flight (included) back to Belize City for your return flight to the U.S.. Most US flights don't leave until at least 1pm or later, so you'll have plenty of time to grab lunch or a few more vacation drinks at the airport. You do have an option to stay longer at our group hotel rate if you find a cheaper U.S. flight later in the week, in which case we will book your hop flight whenever needed. Just let us know!
Continuing on with the expedition for week 3 : If you are continuing onward with the expedition for week 3 (inland Belize, Guatemala) we will be flying out of San Pedro together at 10am to catch our shuttle vans in Belize City for the 1:45hr drive to San Ignacio to begin week 3.

THINGS TO BRING
PACK LIGHT: It's 85 degrees and sunny just about every day of the year in these destinations! You don't need to bring nearly as much as you think. We recommend packing as light as possible (a smaller suitcase is even better) not only for ease of carrying your luggage around (especially for the WEEK 3 & 4 folks as we are moving around quite a bit) but it will also leave room to take home souvenirs. There are cheap laundry services at every location as well if you have the need.
SNACKS: If you're like me and love your American snacks, I recommend packing them in your suitcase or carry on (yes you can bring food on to a plane, just not liquids). They have grocery stores in these countries(not exactly like a Wal Mart mind you) but most American things are tourist priced accordingly as the locals don't eat what we eat. Also I like to bring my own coffee just cause I'm a coffee snob like that....feel free to bring anything you think you can't live without for a week. There are plenty of food trucks, restaurants and grocery stores around with pretty much the same selection you'll find back home.
BUG SPRAY: It's expensive here for a reason. Bring it...you'll thank me on a breezeless day!
(by the way, it's better if it has deet in it)
SUNSCREEN: (see bug spray above..bring it!)
SLEEP: Eye blinders can be a big plus when traveling to these destinations. The sun goes down at 6pm and comes up at 6am every day of the year and some of the rooms don't have much in the way of black out drapes. You'll thank me!
LIQUOR: Duty Free on your way is is the cheapest place you'll find top shelf brands. We personally drink the local rum and vodka as well as beers and rum, and they are cheap. If you drink anything else you'll want to hit duty free on the way in and bring it as it can be pricey in town at these places.
BACKPACK COOLER OR SMALL COLLAPSIBLE COOLER YOU CAN FIT IN YOUR SUITCASE: This one pretty much explains itself!
MONEY: The exchange rate is pinned at 2 Belizean dollars for 1 US for cash and Costa Rica is around 550:1 (don't get too excited though, they price things accordingly). There isn't much need to exchange your US dollars as they are accepted right along side of the local currency everywhere we will go. They might give you change in the local currency, and of course they won't always be able to break a hundred, so I'd recommend bringing smaller bills if you're going the cash route. $20's and below are fine. US credit cards are accepted nearly everywhere (with the exception of street vendors and some souvenir shops) but keep in mind you'll want to bring cash for tips and things you cannot buy with credit card. You can usually add a tip to the credit card bill as well but it's always good to have a cash on hand. Do check your bill before tipping though as many bars and restaurants will add a 10% gratuity automatically which is a fair amount for this trip. Don't forget to make sure you have "no foreign transaction fees" on the card you'll be using and call to let your cc company know you'll be traveling abroad. Credit cards in Belize actually run a bit less than 2:1 but it's not a big issue unless you're making a large purchase. Roatan and the other countries run concurrently with the daily exchange rate at the bank.
SNORKEL GEAR: If you've got room, feel free to bring it. You can of course rent it at the places we go, but if you have your own you can just jump in the water and swim out a bit to the reef...it's not that far from shore.
WATER SHOES/HIKING GEAR: You will want to bring comfortable walking shoes for our group excursions and Maya ruins exploring. Bring water shoes if you plan to zip-line and river raft. For the Costa Rica week, these are a must.
STAYING CONNECTED: The arrival airports do have free wi-fi (though it can be spotty) so you shouldn't need to turn your phone off of airplane mode the entire trip unless you just want to. Most US carriers will work in all of the countries we will visit (Verizon for $10, AT&T and T-mobile are free) but we've found we rarely need the actual phone and there's free high speed wi-fi everywhere so (as much as it sucks not to take off that electronic leash) you won't have to worry about being un-connected very often.
In order to hold the rates at today’s prices, the hotels will retain a 10% non-refundable fee on any cancellations. 90% refund on cancellations will be available until October 1, 2024, After this date, we cannot guarantee any refunds but we will do our best to help you resell your package.
If you anticipate any issues, we strongly recommend purchasing inexpensive travel insurance from an independent source.
